Shared SF Signal: MIND MELD: SF Books That Will Stand The Test of Time.
Did you ever read an old science fiction book that felt dated? Maybe the predictions were way off base, or maybe or they were a reflection of the times in which they were written. Yet some books are considered timeless classics, which makes one wonder which of today’s books will fall into that category. So we turned to this week’s and asked them

And still Obama wants to raise taxes!
Higher taxes hurt everyone. It particularly hurts the little guy. But that's what FDR did too during the Great Depression of the 1930s-1940s. His little tax increments, like on entertainment or candy, hurt the poorest the most. Now Obama wants to kill investment. Folks, the richest can always go elsewhere with their money--like India or Europe whose economies are growing much faster than ours as they pull back from socialism.Obama has no intention of turning the economy around. Many panelists on these TV talk shows, cable or broadcast, right and/or left, just don't get it. They keep making hopeful suggestions. But h...

The Business Case for Enterprise Social Bookmarking: $4.6 Million a Year in Cost Savings!
A couple of weeks ago, the amazingly talented Dion Hinchcliffe put together a blog post under the title of “The 2010 Social Business Landscape” that would probably classify as one of the most insightful, resourceful and essential articles published during the course of this year that everyone in the industry should be reading. Yes, in case you may not have seen it, it is that good! Worth while your time, for sure!, specially, if you are into some amazing graphicware like this one. But, there is something missing from that article, don’t you think? Something that, in my opinion, is one of the fundamental p...

Power Corrupts
About a month ago, Lincoln announced that it will be introducing a new hybrid electric version of the MKZ model with a price tag of $35,180. On its own this is nothing earthshattering, as many automakers have joined, or will soon join, Honda and Toyota in mass-marketing hybrids. But what makes Lincoln's announcement exciting is that their hybrid will be coming at a price you won't be able to refuse. Or will you?

Leo — Named in honor of genius Leonardo da Vinci, Leo marks a renaissance in dog toy design! The original connectable treat-release toy! The durable, hollow-core construction, open neck and two cross-cut holes allow Leo toys to be stuffed with treats. Great fun on its’ own or connect two, three, or more Leos to create customizable treat-release puzzles (treats can travel from toy to toy). Feed dinner from a Leo to slow down gulpers, and exercise your dogs mind by giving them a “hunting and foraging” challenge at mealtime.

From the Announcement:
Three compilations of images from more than half a century of NASA history are available for comment on a section of the photo-sharing site Flickr known as The Commons.
Visitors to NASA on The Commons can help tell the photos’ story by adding tags, or keywords, to the images to identify objects and people. My Top 10 Reasons Why I Bought an iPad
Late last week you would remember how I put together a blog post where I started collecting a number of the Daily #iPad Apps that I keep sharing across over in Twitter, for those folks who may be potentially interested. Also as a good reference for myself, i.e. as part of my own personal knowledge sharing experience, so that I can keep going back and forth over time and see what I may have shared and what not, just in case I may need it for a future reference. Then, my good friend Barry Leiba mentioned, in the comments, how he would be “interested in reading more about specifically HOW the iPad fundamentally chang...

Heimspielpremiere des FC St. Pauli in der 1. Bundesliga: 0:1 gegen Hoffenheim

Metadata, Not E-Books, Can Save Publishing
O’Reilly TOC—Tools of Change for Publishing • July 29, 2010
Needles in haystacks. “E-books will not revolutionize reading, nor will they change the content,” says metadata enthusiast Nick Ruffilo. Reading on a screen rather than paper will not create new markets, but better metadata on each book could allow readers to find more of what they like, regardless of format: “If every book had this data, you could essentially have an eHarmony for books. You fill out a small profile of your likes and dislikes and now are shown a much sma...

Reference Question of the Week - 8/22/10
This was sort of a frustrating question, but in the end was fun - mainly because I get to tag this post “gonzo reference.”
A patron came rushing up to the desk (literally) and said he quickly needed to know John Philip Sousa’s religion. Since time was important, I gave the patron Encyclopedia Britannica and showed him how to find the John Philip Sousa article, while I searched Wikipedia. Neither identified his religion, so the next step was to grab the one Sousa biography we had on the shelf, and the patron looked through the index under “faith,” “religion,” etc., while I kept se...
