From the President
Last week, I attended the Eureka! Leadership Institute as a mentor, to work with 36 library leaders in CA. It was an inspiring week, allowing me to work on strategic thinking, as well as to think about the library and how we meet our goals and how best to express my thoughts on my library's vision, and my vision for libraries throughout California. (I was able to do this even though I wasn't an attendee!)
What a great opportunity to think about libraries nearly 100% of the very very full days (most went from 8 am - 9:30 pm), while mentoring and learning from those who were attending. It made me realize how important a...

Education - 05.09.08
Rankings Go Global: Once a purely American innovation — or problem, depending on how you look at it — lists of “best colleges” are everywhere. Even as the Times Higher is competing to establish the definitive worldwide college rankings, scores of nations from Kazakhstan to Peru are fast developing new systems to evaluate and [...]

comments feed
For anyone who is interested, I finally have the comments feed working properly again. Sorry about that. I wish I could integrate comments in with the main feed, considering that there are so few of them in general, but there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to do this in WordPress without some considerable code hacking.

How Many Have You Read? Life Changing Books Recommended by Scientists
This New Scientist article lists books recommended by 17 leading scientists. This would make a great display or annotated blog post, inviting readers to describe "life-changing" books or a neat guest blogging spot on the library's home page inviting teachers, students, public officials to post an entry ... a neat way to engage and interact with the community of readers.Or even better, accept video submissions and link to them on your site. The New Scientist staff also provided recommendations:Tags: blog | book | display | engage | library | life-changing | relationships

It was a lovely, cool day in Sacramento, and while the legislative news is not great, I feel that the visits were successful.
